The Almighty Get Down headline Get On Up! on April 8

The Almighty Get Down

Cincinnati Entertainment Awards – Best Live Act

The Almighty Get Down is busy preparing a new album, but not too busy to bring the funk back to Toledo on April 8, when they headline Get On Up! The Ohio Theatre Funk and Soul Revue.
Named Cincinnati’s Best Live Act in 2014, The Almighty Get Down is known for its electrifying live show. The band brings a high-octane mix of funk, rock and soul perfect for fans of Sharon Jones, Black Joe Lewis or The Alabama Shakes. Anchored by a fierce horn section, frontman Willy Morran steers TAGD through a night of original songs, augmented by the occassional deep-tracks cover that you didn’t see coming.
As a teaser, scroll down for “Good Old Times, the first single from the forthcoming release; or a blistering live version of “Family,” captured live by Audiotree at the Woodward Theater in Cincinnati. Or, enjoy the intimate vibe of the band’s NPR Tiny Desk Contest submission, “Friends You Got.”
“The Almighty Get Down stands out among the Neo-Funk crowd, like a big smiling elephant in a party of monkeys. It’s plain to hear – this is feel-good music, old-school Funk raised in the Modern era and played impeccably. It’s obviously influenced by the pioneers of the genre, but injected with new energy.” (Midpoint Music Festival – 2015)
“Cincinnati funk revivalists The Almighty Get Down are quickly becoming a must-see live act in Ohio with the word quickly spreading.  The seven-member band creates an original sound, which blends ’70s funk and soul, rock, and pop with a jam band’s mentality and an insanely fun and energetic live show to match.” (Dayton City Paper)
Also appearing are Toledo acts The Overton Project and G-Mac & the Soul Attack. The Ohio Theatre is located at 3114 Lagrange Street. Built in 1921, it is the last of Toledo’s neighborhood theatres, and now features upgraded lights, sound and concessions, including a full bar. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, and $10 for students. Doors open at 7:00pm with music at 8:00pm.
